Colder Temps Return Along With Snow

After clouds lingered overnight, plus an isolated wintry mix this morning that skimmed the Cape and the Islands, most of our Sunday will be dry with intervals of sun and clouds similar to Saturday.

As a weak cold front slides in from the northwest, a few snow flurries could not be ruled out for later this evening, but we’ll definitely feel the cold for Monday morning’s commute.

Some pockets could start off into the upper teens including the Merrimack Valley and the Worcester Hills. Monday’s high temperatures will be comparable to what we started off with Sunday morning with seasonable highs into the mid to upper 30s under mostly cloudy skies.

Monday afternoon also brings the chance for another round of snow and sleet along the Cape and the Islands as a low pressure system just misses our area.

Tuesday and Wednesday are the days to watch for accumulating snowfall. Tuesday morning starts off dry as the system makes its final approach into New England.

By the afternoon, snow will start to fall in western and central Massachusetts, and continue its trek into eastern Massachusetts by late afternoon and lasting through the overnight. It could make for a slow and slick drive home on Tuesday and a messy morning commute Wednesday.

For snowfall totals, expect a coating to 2” of snow in higher elevations. Some snow showers could even linger into early Thursday, Groundhog Day, but the temperatures take a dive soon after this system moves out with highs into the upper 20s by Friday.
