Tropical Storm Matthew Bears Watching

Storm Moving Through the Caribbean Now

Tropical Storm Matthew is swiftly moving into the Caribbean right now, after forming on Wednesday and bringing gusts to 60 mph to islands like Martinique.

The storm will move through extremely warm waters as it works west this week, likely becoming a hurricane by the weekend. As that strengthening happens, the storm is expected to turn sharply to the north towards Cuba and Jamaica.

The exact track of the storm after that point, during the next week time frame, is less certain. For now it looks as though the storm is likely to continue moving north. If that were to happen, the East Coast of the United States would need to carefully track the storm’s progress.

The Atlantic hurricane season continues through the month of November.
