Two Police Cruisers Set on Fire in Dracut

A person of interest has already been identified

NBC Universal, Inc.

Police in Dracut, Massachusetts, say a fire that destroyed two marked cruisers in the station parking lot late Wednesday is suspicious in nature.

The fire burned through one cruiser and quickly spread to another one parked nearby, authorities said. The two damaged vehicles were a reserve cruiser and a school resource officer vehicle.

Investigators say they already have a person of interest: a woman who was found by officers in the lobby of the police station just after the fire.

She was taken to an area hospital for an evaluation, police said.

"We are extremely sensitive to the mental health component that appears to be a part of this situation," Dracut Police Chief Peter Bartlett said.

It is unclear if the woman found in the lobby will face any charges.

Both cruisers were empty at the time of the fire, which occurred around 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Dracut police said there will be no disruption in patrol services as neither vehicle was a front line cruiser.
