UMass Student Fatally Struck by Vehicle

Hannah Frilot was walking with a friend when she was hit by a vehicle Friday night

A student at the University of Massachusetts- Amherst was fatally hit by a vehicle late Friday night.

Hannah Frilot, 20, of Amherst, Massachusetts, was walking with a friend on North East Street when she was hit by a 63-year-old woman driving a Toyota RAV-4, according to officials.

The driver stopped after hitting the girl and called 911.

Frilot was pronounced dead at the scene. Her friend was not seriously injured, but was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

"Hannah Frilot was a rising senior and an engineering student at UMass Amherst. This is a terrible tragedy and loss for the community," said UMass Amherst spokesperson Ed Blaguszewski.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
