1 Dead in Crash in Bridgewater, Vermont; Dozens of Other Accidents Due to Icy Roads

The victim's name has not been released

State police say a Hartford, Vermont, resident has died in a crash in Bridgewater as freezing rain caused dozens of crashes, traffic jams on interstates and closed schools.

NBC5 reports that Route 4 was shut down for six hours due to the three-vehicle crash. Police said the driver of a car lost control after entering a curve. The car crossed the center line, hitting a tractor-trailer. That tractor-trailer crossed the center line in an attempt to avoid the collision, striking a pickup truck head-on.

The driver of the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver's identity was being withheld pending family notification.

The drivers of the car and tractor-trailer were evaluated by first responders and released. All three drivers were wearing seat belts.

At the time of the crash there was freezing rain, and the road was partially covered by ice, police said.
