12 Arrested in Heroin Trafficking Ring

Authorities seized $200,000 worth of the drug.

The U.S. Attorney's office in Vermont says 12 people have been arrested on heroin trafficking charges and authorities have seized $200,000 worth of the drug.

A federal grand jury last week returned a 14-count indictment against eight people charging them with a large-scale heroin and crack cocaine trafficking conspiracy based in Caledonia County. Other defendants are accused of distributing the drug.

The charges resulted from three long-term investigations involving federal, state, and local agencies.

During 2015, federal prosecutors have charged 87 people with heroin-related crimes, compared to 56 during the same period last year.
