Vermont State Police say 12 rescue dogs are going to be okay after they were involved in a crash on Interstate 91 in the town of Windsor.

According to police, one of the occupants of the vehicle was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries after a van slid off the road in the icy conditions. The troopers, the local fire department, and the other occupant of the vehicle worked to transport the dogs off of the Interstate and make arrangements with the rescue agency.

The Windsor Fire Department turned an ambulance into a mobile pet carrier, state police said. They add that many people overheard the incident on their scanners and showed up to help with blankets and puppy treats.
