Two men have been cited by Vermont state game wardens for illegally shooting bears.
Scott Keefer, 24, and Aaron Roucoulet, 20, both of Killington were both arrested following the execution of a search warrant at a Killington residence.
In early August, a dead bear found in the backyard of a Killington residence was determined to have been shot with a rifle.
The pair will be arraigned in Rutland Superior Court on Oct. 20.
Vermont's two regulated bear hunting seasons this year are Sept. 1 - Nov. 14 and Nov. 15 - 23.
Vermont law allows for the taking of bears doing damage in specific circumstances, but makes no allowances for killing bears getting into trash or walking on private property.
Vermont Fish & Wildlife officials are also reminding successful bear hunters to submit a bear tooth so that wildlife managers can collect information on the state's bear population.

Teeth submitted by hunters are used to determine the age of the bear. Department staff use age and sex data to get an estimate of the number of bears in the state and to determine the status and health of the bear population. Envelopes for submitting the tooth are available at all big game check stations.
