The number of homes and businesses still without power in Vermont has dropped to just over 2,000.

The number of homes and businesses still without power in Vermont has dropped to just over 2,000.

Some 100,000 customers were without service at the peak of last week's storm when heavy, wet snow downed power lines across the state.

By Sunday night, Green Mountain Power was reporting about 900 outages. The Vermont Electric Cooperative was reporting more than 950 outages.

Parts of Vermont received more than a foot of snow Tuesday and Wednesday, causing the worst power outages in years.

Officials say some outages could linger into the coming week.
