Blood Evidence Leads to 2014 Burglary Arrest in Vermont

Back in September of 2014, officials in Fairfax reported that items had been stolen from the town highway department

Vermont State Police say blood evidence led them to a man suspected of trying to break into a town highway department building nearly a year and a half ago.

Back in September of 2014, officials in Fairfax reported that items had been stolen from the town highway department, a locked structure was broken into and damaged and there was an unsuccessful attempt to break into the department's main building. A state trooper noticed fresh blood at the scene, and investigators suspected it came from someone who stole a battery from one of the town trucks.

Based on DNA testing performed by the Vermont Forensic Laboratory, authorities charged 33-year-old Jan Hood with petit larceny and burglary. A phone number for Hood, who is from Enosburg, could not be found Monday.
