Suspicious Package in Barre, Vt. Deemed Safe

Police in Barre, Vermont, say a suspicious package containing wires found in a downtown parking lot on Monday morning, turned out to be just a hand warmer.

Authorities said a pedestrian pointed out what was believed to be a suspicious package in the parking lot of the Rite Aid on Main Street to a nearby officer at 9:38 a.m.

As a precaution, the area in front of the drug store was cleared of people and traffic was diverted away from the location.

The Vermont State Police squad was also called in.

Upon investigation, the bomb squad determined that the package was a partial disassembled electronic hand warmer. Authorities disassembled the device further and then reopened the area.
