Christmas Trees $5 in Green Mountain National Forest

Trees in Green Mountain National Forest more than 20-feet tall are eligible

The public can buy Christmas trees for $5 this year in the Green Mountain National Forest.

The U.S. Forest Service says it's a one-time opportunity to cut down a Christmas tree on national forest land.

Anyone interested must buy a "Christmas Tree Removal" permit for $5 at one of the Forest Service offices located in Rutland, Middlebury, Manchester Center, or Rochester. The permit must be attached to the tree before transporting it from the site where it was cut.

The permit holder is responsible for making sure the tree comes from forest service land. Maps are available.

Trees more than 20-feet tall are eligible.
