Drug Take-Back Day Nets 5,800 Pounds of Drugs

Shumlin says prescription drugs that fall into the wrong hands, on purpose or by accident, can help fuel addiction, crime, and in some cases the loss of life

Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin says the latest drug-take-back day collected more than 5,800 pounds of prescription drugs, a record.

The Saturday event was part of a nationwide effort led by the Drug Enforcement Administration working in partnership with local and state law enforcement agencies to ensure the safe disposal of unwanted, unneeded, or expired prescription drugs.

Shumlin says prescription drugs that fall into the wrong hands, on purpose or by accident, can help fuel addiction, crime, and in some cases the loss of life.

He says the amount of drugs recovered this year shows Vermonters are doing their part to combat drug addiction.
