Ex-Cop to Plead Guilty to Stealing Guns, Drugs

Several drug cases had to be dismissed because evidence was missing or compromised

A former Vermont police officer accused of stealing drug and cash evidence has agreed to plead guilty, according to the Burlington Free Press.

The newspaper reports that Tyler Kinney, 39, a former Colchester Police detective corporal, will plead guilty to heroin distribution, firearms trafficking and theft charges.

Kinney, 39, was indicted in December for stealing drug and cash evidence, giving a felon a firearm and distributing heroin. He initially entered a not guilty plea, but is expected to appear in U.S. District Court on Monday afternoon to change his plea.

An independent investigation found that almost 1,300 doses of heroin, possibly nine guns and $12,229 in cash were stolen or were missing from the Colchester, Vermont, police department's evidence locker.

Several drug cases linked to Kinney have been dismissed because evidence was missing or compromised.
