Fallen Boat Snarls Traffic on Busy Vermont Road

An unusual sight snarled traffic on a busy Vermont road Monday afternoon: a fallen boat.

Burlington Police said a car struck the trailer a truck was using to haul a boat, causing the trailer to become detached from the truck and the boat to break loose.

After the boat fell onto North Avenue in the vicinity of Burlington High School, it clogged both lanes of travel.

Police said no one was injured, but the road had to be shut down temporarily to safely remove the vehicles and the boat.

Police said it’s a good reminder to always pay close attention to any potential hazards on the road, because conditions can change quickly.

“Just for general safety, be alert to your surroundings and be conscious of following the law pertaining to texting while driving or being on your phone while driving,” Lt. Jonathan Young of the Burlington Police Dept. told necn affiliate NBC 5 News.

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash but said right now, they do not believe drugs, alcohol, or texting were to blame.
