A fire at a combined commercial and residential building in Vermont has displaced a family and their pets, according to officials.

Firefighters responded to the blaze at 55 Central St. in Woodstock early Monday morning.

WPTZ reports drivers are urged to avoid Route 4 through Woodstock until the scene has cleared.

A Red Cross team is meeting with the family to help them get shelter, groceries and other items for their immediate needs.

According to the organization, in New Hampshire and Vermont, a family is displaced by a disaster, usually a home fire, every 17 hours.
