The former head of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in Vermont has been acquitted of a simple assault charge.
The Burlington Free Press reports James Mostyn of Burlington was found not guilty of simple assault during a Thursday jury trial. His lawyer said Monday that Mostyn testified in his own defense.
He is still facing a misdemeanor domestic assault charge stemming from a 2014 incident with his girlfriend's son. Mostyn pleaded not guilty to that charge last year. The case is set for a jury drawing in April.
Mostyn was one of the investigators who helped secure confessions from one of the three Sheffield-area men charged with murder in the 2010 shooting death of 78-year-old Mary "Pat" O'Hagan.
