Former Store Manager Pleads Guilty to Embezzlement

A former grocery store manager has pleaded guilty to embezzling more than $70,000 from the store where she worked in Lyndonville, Vermont.

Thirty-seven-year-old Deborah Williamson, who now lives in Florida, initially pleaded not guilty in April.

The office of the U.S. attorney for Vermont says between 2010 and 2012 Williamson stole the money from the safe at White Market, where she worked as a manager and regularly cashed checks drawn against the company's bank account to get cash and coins for the cash registers.

Prosecutors say she allegedly tried to cover of up the thefts by not recording or underreporting the amount of cash received from the bank.

The Caledonian Record reports Williamson, who's scheduled for sentencing on Jan. 29, 2015, faces up to 20 years in prison.
