Guilty Plea in Case of Murdered Teacher

Melissa Jenkins was killed in 2012

A Vermont woman has pleaded guilty in the 2012 killing of a St. Johnsbury teacher, rejecting any claim to an insanity defense.

After initially pleading not guilty to aggravated murder last year, Patricia Prue said she wanted to plead guilty so that she can resume written contact with her husband, Allen Prue, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in December for killing Melissa Jenkins.

Her appearance in Caledonia Superior Court on Thursday was meant to be a hearing addressing her competency. She had undergone at least one mental health evaluation so a judge would be sure she's competent to decide to plead guilty. Her plea came after the judge determined that she can make rational decisions.

Prue's sentence was scheduled for Friday.
