Heavy Rains Cause Mudslide, Flooding in Brattleboro, Vermont

Heavy rains caused a mudslide and flooding in Brattleboro, Vermont, on Monday afternoon.

Brattleboro fire officials confirmed that they were responding to Route 30 for a reported mudslide around 5 p.m. There is no word yet on any injuries.

Photos shared on social media also showed some heavy flooding on Main Street in Brattleboro.

A flash flood watch is in effect for most of Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine, with heavy rains that could drop 1 to 2 inches of rain per hour on Monday as showers and thunderstorms move into the region from the west.

The National Weather Service said up to 3 inches of rain had already fallen by Monday afternoon in eastern Windham County and southern Vermont. Up to another 3 inches was expected.
