Man Found Dead Inside St. Johnsbury, Vermont, Apartment; No Arrests

At least two cars were seen fleeing the area after the shooting, witnesses told police

A man was found fatally shot in a St. Johnsbury, Vermont, apartment Wednesday night, according to police.

Local authorities received a call of a shooting at 9:48 p.m. and responded to 170 Pearl St, Vermont State Police said. They found a man dead inside the apartment.

At least two cars were seen fleeing the area after the shooting, witnesses told police. A detailed description of the suspect vehicles was not immediately available.

The victim was Neftaly Martinez, 37, of Enfield, Connecticut, state police said Friday afternoon after an autopsy. The cause of death was found to be a gunshot to the chest.

State police have yet to identify the victim. His body has been taken to the Vermont Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington for an autopsy.

Police said the shooting appears to be isolated and there is no threat to the public.

The investigation is ongoing.
