The National Weather Service is warning that the warm temperatures could lead to localized ice jams and river flooding in parts of Vermont.
A flood watch is in effect through Saturday evening in central and northern areas of the state.
Temperatures rose into the 40s and 50s on Thursday and were expected to soar into the upper 50s and lower 60s in some areas on Friday.
The weather service says runoff from melting snow will contribute to ice breaking up on rivers, which could lead to localized ice jams and related flooding.
The city of Montpelier is telling residents who live in flood-prone areas to make sure their basements are ready for water just in case.
