Lawmaker Loses Agricultural Grant After Sex Assault Charge

A Vermont state senator facing sexual assault and other charges has lost a $20,000 state agriculture grant.

Secretary of Agriculture Chuck Ross said the Working Lands Enterprise Board had approved Franklin County Sen. Norman McAllister's request for the grant to increase vegetable production on his farm.

The 63-year-old McAllister was arrested outside the Statehouse last week on charges of sexually assaulting two women who worked for him. He has pleaded not guilty.

Ross said McAllister had failed to provide additional information needed for the grant application in a timely fashion. Ross says that along with McAllister's arrest prompted him to revoke the grant.
