Lawmakers Oppose ATV Trail on Public Land in Vermont

A Vermont legislative committee is objecting to a proposed rule that would allow all-terrain vehicles on a short section of state land linking trails.

Vermont Public Radio reports that the Legislative Committee on Administrative Rules says it's not clear that the Agency of Natural Resources has the authority to make the rule.

Committee members on Thursday also questioned whether the economic impact of the rule had been adequately addressed.

The proposed rule would create a half-mile connector trail on public land in Stockbridge.

The head of the Vermont All-Terrain Vehicle Sportsman's Association told VPR it's been a lengthy, frustrating and, so far, fruitless fight for his members.
