Man Charged With DWI in New York Pedestrian Crash That Killed Massachusetts Teen, Injured 2 Others

A man has been charged with DWI after officials say he hit three teenage college students in Upstate New York, killing a 19-year-old from Massachusetts.

Michael Hedges of Lenox was walking with two fellow Skidmore College students, 18-year-old Oban Galbraith of Shelburne, Vermont, and Toby Freeman of New York City, when they were hit around 11:20 p.m. on Clinton Street in Greenfield, near the Saratoga Springs campus.

Hedges and Galbraith were airlifted to Albany Medical Center, with Freeman being transported on the ground to Saratoga Hospital. Shortly before 6 a.m. Sunday, Hedges was pronounced dead.

Galbraith and Freeman are both in critical condition.

After the crash and before Hedges' death, police arrested 64-year-old Thomas Gorman of Saratoga Springs for DWI and three counts of first-degree vehicular assault. Police said at the time that additional charges were forthcoming.

Gorman was arraigned in Greenfield and held on $50,000 cash/$100,000 bond.

It was not immediately clear whether Gorman had an attorney.
