Man Charged With Murdering Daughter's Boyfriend Denied Bail

Stephen Pelletier is accused of shooting and killing 25-year-old Michael Wisell in May on Pelletier's 140-acre farm

A Vermont man accused of killing his daughter's boyfriend and burying his body beneath a manure pile is staying in jail for now.

The Rutland Herald reports
the Vermont Supreme Court has upheld an earlier decision issued in Rutland criminal court that Stephen Pelletier should continue to be held without bail as he awaits his first-degree murder trial.

The 59-year-old Pelletier of Castleton is accused of shooting and killing 25-year-old Michael Wisell in May on Pelletier's 140-acre farm in Castleton. Pelletier, who pleaded not guilty, told police Wisell had been physically abusive to his daughter.

His lawyer asked that Pelletier be released to "home confinement" so he could continue to work on his farm.
