Man Wanted in Connection With Vt. Murder Arrested in Fla.

A man sought in connection with a fatal shooting in Montpelier, Vermont, in what authorities say was the first murder in the state capital in nearly a century has been apprehended in Florida, according to state police.

Twenty-nine-year-old Barre resident Jayveon Caballero, who was wanted in the January shooting death of Markus Austin, was located in Deltona on Thursday.

Police have said Caballero and Austin were involved in an altercation outside Gustos bar in Barre. Police believe Caballero confronted Austin outside Austin's apartment in Montpelier and shot him.

Police say a Barre man later took Caballero to a bus station in White River Junction and bought him a bus ticket.

Extradition efforts are underway to bring Caballero back to Vermont.

Bail had previously been set at $500,000.

It’s not clear when Caballero will appear in court or if he has an attorney.
