Mom Charged With Murder in Deaths of 3 Relatives

Murder charges were filed late Thursday against Jody Herring

A Vermont woman accused of killing a social worker because she was upset about losing custody of her 9-year-old daughter has been charged with gunning down three relatives in their home hours before.

Murder charges were filed late Thursday against Jody Herring in the deaths of two cousins - 43-year-old Regina Herring and 48-year-old Rhonda Herring - and an aunt, 73-year-old Julie Falzarano, in their Berlin home.

Herring has pleaded not guilty to shooting Department for Children and Families employee Lara Sobel as she exited a state office building in Barre on Aug. 7.

Police say bystanders got a hunting rifle away from Herring and subdued her after Sobel was shot. Officers say Herring was "calm and laughing" when they arrived on the scene minutes after the shooting.
