New Vermont Group to Distribute Diapers to Food Banks

Food shelves rarely stock diapers and families can't use food subsidies to buy them

A new group is hoping to distribute 100,000 diapers this year through some food banks in Vermont's most populous county.

Vermont Public Radio reports The Diaper Bank held a ribbon cutting on Thursday.

The diaper bank is organized by the Junior League of Champlain Valley.

Food shelves rarely stock diapers and families can't use food subsidies to buy them.

Organizer Amanda Herzberger says it's a common requirement that parents give child care providers enough diapers to last a day for their children. Diapers can cost between $70 and $90 a month.

Herzberger says they're hopeful they will be able to expand.
