Police: 2 Shoot Selves While Hunting in Vermont

Vermont State Police say a New York hunter is being treated for a gunshot wound to the foot after accidentally shooting himself while preparing to go hunting in Vershire.

Police and game wardens were called just before 7 a.m. Sunday after receiving the report of an accidental self-inflicted gunshot would.

An investigation determined that 47-year-old Patrick Dixon, of West Chazy, New York, had just been dropped by members of his hunting party and he was preparing for the day's hunt when the shooting occurred.

Dixon was taken for treatment to the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire.

Police and wardens are continuing to investigate the incident.

Additionally, NBC5 reports, a 15-year-old boy shot himself while hunting near his home in Royalton. The teen reportedly lost control of his gun while getting up, firing a round into his own foot.

Vermont's 16-day rifle deer hunting season began Saturday.
