Vermont Murder Suspect Kills Self Following Police Chase

A man suspected in a Vermont murder killed himself in Kansas following a police chase on Wednesday.

Jason Kendall, 27, of West Windsor, Vermont, was wanted for second degree murder in the shooting death of Molly Helland earlier this week. Tuesday, it was reported that Kendall was seen in western Massachusetts. Authorities believed Kendall had put Massachusetts plates reading "842YM3" on his silver 1996 Honda Accord.

Police in Kansas chased a Honda Accord with stolen Massachusetts plates on Wednesday. Kansas Highway Patrol attempted to stop the vehicle for speeding, traveling 87 mph in a 75 mph zone. The vehicle did not immediately stop, speeding up to 105 mph. The vehicle eventually crashed, and Kendall was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside.

Helland, a 22-year-old from Windsor, had a child with Kendall. Investigators say she had recently ended her relationship with him.

Police in Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Kansas are continuing to investigate.
