Police Chief Retiring After 25 Years

Burlington, Vt. chief will retire at end of June

The police chief in Vermont's largest city is planning to retire.

Burlington Police Chief Michael Schirling announced Tuesday that he would retire at the end of June.

The 45-year-old Schirling began his law enforcement career in 1989 as a part-time office while he attended the University of Vermont. He was appointed chief in 2008.

Speaking at a Burlington news conference, Schirling said he had no specific plans after he retires.
