Vermont State Police have arrested a New York City man after finding more than 1,400 bags of heroin inside his body, the department said.
Officers stopped the man in St. Albans City on Tuesday for numerous motor vehicles violations, according to a news release.
During the stop, a drug-detecting K-9 responded to Fernando Estrella, police said. No contraband was located in the vehicle so Estrella was detained. A search warrant was sought and obtained for a body cavity search.
The search was executed at a local hospital, where about 1,428 bags of heroin were allegedly found in Estrella, 41. It was not immediately clear if the Bronx resident has an attorney.
Police discovered Estrella had also been arrested in November 2015 on drug charges.
Estrella was arrested and arraigned at the Franklin County Superior Court for felony heroin possession, heroin trafficking, heroin importation and violation of conditions of release.
