Power Almost Completely Restored in Vermont

Vermont electric utilities are making a final push to restore power to everyone left in the dark following last week's storms that covered trees and power lines with heavy, wet snow.

Vermont electric utilities are making a final push to restore power to everyone left in the dark following last week's storms that covered trees and power lines with heavy, wet snow.

As of midmorning Monday, utilities reported just under 3,000 customers without power.

More than half of those outages are being reported in Rutland County.

Vermont's largest electric utility, Green Mountain Power, is reporting about 1,650 outages, the Vermont Electric Cooperative, about 850, and Washington Electric about 450.

Since the first storm hit last Tuesday, the utilities say 100,000 customers were affected. Utility officials say it's the most challenging series of outages in memory, surpassing those caused by Tropical Storm Irene in 2011 and a 1998 ice storm.
