Colchester, Vermont, police who found some personal items on land belonging to a Vermont kayaker who went missing on Lake Champlain do not think he's in the water.
Coast Guard crews ended their search for 25-year-old Sean Hawley of Arlington on Monday night. The focus was on Stave Island, where his kayak was found. The Burlington Free Press reports Hawley is a "person of interest" in a burglary of a building on Stave Island.
The island is about 2 miles from Colchester Point, where Hawley was last seen paddling a black, inflatable kayak about 11 p.m. Saturday. Coast Guard Lt. Scott McCann in Portland, Maine, says the case is still open but the all-out search is over.
Many agencies and volunteers were involved and searchers used dogs and a helicopter.
