Vermont State Police say a sheriff's deputy is facing charges for allegedly shooting at two men at a traffic light while off-duty.
The Caledonian-Record reports 49-year-old William Pine, of Brookfield, was to answer to charges of attempted assault Friday. It wasn't immediately known if Pine had a lawyer; an email was left for him.
State Police Detective Sgt. Mark Potter said in a press release that two men reported to the Orange County Sheriff's Department a pickup truck followed them closely Monday. It pulled up at an angle in front of their car at a traffic light in Williamstown, blocking them.
Authorities say the men attempted to drive away toward Interstate 64 and heard two gunshots. One bullet blew out the rear window of their jeep; the other struck the rear bumper.
Officials determined the truck was Pine's.
