Police in the northern Vermont city of Newport say an unidentified caller made a threat to the Department of Children and Families office in Newport, prompting the state office building to be locked down.
Police say the caller said Friday morning that if demands were not met the person would come to the office and engage in active violence.
The Emory Hebard State Office Building on Main Street was locked down around 9 a.m. and people were told to stay away.
By about 10:30 a.m. police say they determined that the building was not in immediate danger and the lockdown was lifted.
The building also houses the departments of Motor Vehicles, Labor, and businesses such as the Community National Bank and a bridal shop.
