State Police Arrest Motorist After Chase

Vermont State Police say they arrested a motorist in the town of Brookfield after he led them on a chase Sunday morning.

Troopers were patrolling Interstate 89 around 6:55 a.m. when they noticed a vehicle with a cracked windshield traveling southbound. A registration inquiry yielded that unassigned plates were attached to the vehicle.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but the motorist would not pull over. They pursued the vehicle for eight miles before being joined by the Orange County Sheriff's Department and the Randolph Police Department. The pursuit continued for another nine miles before spike strips were set up across the interstate.

The operator and lone occupant, identified as 33-year-old Raymond Norton of Barre, was taken into custody around 7:15 a.m. Norton was found to have a suspended license and an arrest warrant out of Washington County.

Norton is charged with attempting to elude law enforcement and driving with a suspended license. He will appear in Orange County Superior Court on Monday.
