Teen Tipster in Alleged School Shooting Plot to Get Award

The Vermont State Police are honoring a teen who notified law enforcement last year of a possible school shooting plot at the Fair Haven Union High School.

Angela McDevitt is getting a lifesaving award on Friday at the state police annual awards ceremony.

In February of 2018, she turned over to authorities messages from Jack Sawyer in which he discussed the alleged plot.

Police arrested Sawyer the day after the Parkland, Florida, high school shooting that left 17 people dead. They said they thwarted Sawyer's planned shooting at Fair Haven Union High School.

Gov. Phil Scott changed his perspective on gun laws shortly afterward, signing legislation that raised the gun-buying age, banned high-capacity magazines and made it easier to take guns from people who posed a threat.
