Truck Hits Tree, Snaps Into 2 Pieces

Both occupants suffered serious injuries

Two people suffered serious injuries when their truck left the roadway and slammed into a tree, causing the vehicle to split into two pieces.

At 3:22 p.m. Sunday, Vermont State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 89 south in Hartford. State police said a 2015 Ford F-150 had gone from the travel lane to the passing lane and left the roadway into the woods. The vehicle struck a large tree, causing the tree to snap in half and the vehicle to break into two separate pieces, with the cab of the truck snapping off the frame.

The driver, David Griswold, 59, and a passenger, Bonny Laporte, 48, both of Hartland, Vermont, were not wearing seatbelts and were assisted out of the vehicle by rescue personnel and witnesses. They were transported to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The accident remains under investigation.
