UVM Endows Scholarship in Names of Sen. Leahy, Wife

The University of Vermont is honoring U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy and his wife Marcelle with a $3.3 million fund to pay for scholarships in the school's Honors College and the Gund Institute for Environment.

The university announced Friday that the funds for the Patrick and Marcelle Leahy Scholars Initiative were raised and will continue to grow through private giving.

UVM President Suresh Garimella says the scholarships will help the school prepare students to "meet the challenges that confront our state, our nation and our world."

The fund will support students selected from the UVM Honors College, whose members represent the top 10 percent of undergraduates. It will also support graduate students at the Gund Institute, which focuses on environmental issues.
