Vermont Beach Closed Due to E. Coli Contamination

Officials closed the beach Tuesday after tests on Monday found bacteria levels just above the federal health threshold

EDITOR'S NOTE: Burlington Parks, Recreation and Waterfront says the beaches have been reopened.

Burlington, Vermont, officials have closed North Beach after test results showed elevated levels of E. coli bacteria in the water.

Officials closed the beach Tuesday after tests on Monday found bacteria levels just above the federal health threshold.

It's likely due to stormwater runoff following heavy rains on Sunday. All other Burlington beaches remain open.

Parks officials say the water was retested on Tuesday. The results are due back on Wednesday and will determine if North Beach will reopen.

The city does regular testing at all beaches twice a week.
