Body Believed to Be Missing Kayaker Found in Lake Champlain-Vermont

Vermont's State Police Marine Unit and Dive Team has located a body believed to be that of a missing kayaker in Lake Champlain.

The body was recovered late Wednesday afternoon in the water near Shelburne Point. It's thought to be that of 41-year-old Eric Plett, of Weehawken, New Jersey, who was last seen in that area on July 2.

The group he was kayaking with reported that his kayak capsized and he planned to swim back to shore. Platt, who wasn't wearing a life jacket, was last seen holding onto his overturned yellow kayak.

The body has been taken to the chief medical examiner's office in Burlington for positive identification and an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.
