Vermont Man Hospitalized After Ultralight Aircraft Crash

A 67-year-old Vermont man has been hospitalized after the ultralight aircraft he was piloting crashed shortly after takeoff.

Dennis Carver, of East Montpelier, was the lone occupant of the plane when it crashed around 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Knapp International Airport in Berlin.

Officials say Carver missed the runway when he tried returning to the airport and landed hard in a nearby field. The plane was destroyed on impact.

Carver suffered cuts to his hand and head. He was taken to the Central Vermont Medical Center Hospital for treatment.

The airport was shut down for about an hour.

Officials with the state Aviation Department are investigating the incident.
