Vermont State Police Seek Escaped Prisoner

Authorities say the wanted inmate is 26-year-old William Blanchard, who is serving an 18- to 24-month sentence

Vermont State Police and St. Johnsbury officers are searching for a prisoner who escaped from a work crew in the northeast Vermont town and is still at large.

Authorities say the wanted inmate is 26-year-old William Blanchard, who is serving an 18- to 24-month sentence at the Northeast Correctional Complex for burglary and marijuana possession.

Blanchard was permitted to use the restroom at the St. Johnsbury Town Garage around 1:20 p.m. Wednesday. Police say he escaped the building through a window and then fled into the forest.

Blanchard has strawberry blond hair, is about 6 feet tall and weighs 155 pounds. He was wearing blue jeans and a dark shirt, but police believe he dropped the clothes.

Officials say Blanchard could now be wearing sunglasses and a Carhartt hooded sweatshirt.
