2 Vermont State Police Troopers Suspended After Empty Building Burns

Vermont State Police have suspended a second trooper as they investigate the circumstances of a fire that destroyed an unoccupied building on the property of another trooper.

Officials said Tuesday night that Trooper Jason Haley was put on paid administrative leave, along with Trooper Stephen McGranaghan.

The fire on McGranaghan's property was reported shortly after midnight Monday. Police say McGranaghan had a permit to burn brush on his property, but did not have a permit to burn the building.

Investigators say the 35-year-old Haley was at the scene of the fire.

The results of the investigation will be turned over to the Attorney General's office.

McGranaghan, has been a trooper since 2009 and Haley has four years of experience. Emails were sent to them seeking comment.

There were no injuries.
