Vt. 911 Head: No Bad Outcomes From Outage

97 people called for help during last week's outage

The official who oversees Vermont's 911 emergency telephone system says there were no reported bad outcomes of the 97 people who called for help during last week's outage.

E911 Executive Director David Tucker says that 97 people tried to call 911 during an almost six-hour outage on Friday caused by a tree that fell on a FairPoint Communications fiber optic line and the subsequent failure of a backup system.

Tucker said Tuesday that an initial report of a two-hour ambulance delay in one case turned out to be false.

He says that in that case, the caller managed to reach a 911 operator and an ambulance arrived within 15 minutes, the expected time.
