Officials with Vermont's 911 system say it experienced artificial spikes in call volume - also called phantom calls - for about an hour Thursday.

Tyler Morse, information technology manager of the state's Enhanced 911 Board, said a review of the incoming call logs by board staff identified 15 callers who potentially did not have voice contact with a 911 call during the time frame as a result of the increased call volume.

Board staff confirmed the callers were not reporting an emergency or were able to obtain assistance when a 911 call-taker returned their call. The problem happened between 10:53 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. Thursday.

Morse said the 911 system vendor has confirmed the issue has been resolved and is investigating.
