Vermont Firearms Instructor Shot; Woman Denies Charges

A woman has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder after a shooting that critically injured a firearms instructor in Westford, Vermont.

Thirty-one-year-old Veronica Lewis of Worcester was arraigned Tuesday. She's being held without bail.

Police say 48-year-old Darryl Montague of Westford was found Monday lying at the edge of the road near his home, which is near his firearms business. It was initially thought that he may have been struck by a vehicle. Responders discovered he was suffering from the gunshot wounds and was hospitalized in critical condition.

Police say he was shot in the torso and jaw.

Authorities say Lewis was at Montague's home on Monday for a firearms lesson.
