NECN meteorologist Matt Noyes talked with Rick Bowen of the U.S. Coast Guard about how weather affects boating in the summertime.
Bowen suggests to file a float plan and to have a cell phone or marine radio on board. He also suggests having a drain plug on the boat and storing life jackets on board.
In addition, the Coast Guard says to take safety classes, get a free vessel check, and not to operate under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
